Embodied

Inspired by research into how our bodies learn and hold trauma, choreographer Kelly Knox wanted this piece to reflect the embodiment of trauma. It started with discussing how the body learns and the formation of neuropathways. Wanting to give a visual to these pathways and connect the dances together, I painted lines on each costume piece that move and change as the dancers do. The colors were chosen to reflect a neutral tan color, with the painting in a deep bruise like purple. A main function of the design was to keep it neutral and simple with the colors and styles, so that the audience could focus on the movement.
