A cosplay commission, I used a pattern from Firefly Path. It was an online pattern that I printed out and pieced together to then cut the fabric. To get the scaly texture it was suggested to use a fashion fabric layer and then a tulle layer to give the scales dimension. The scales were cut in strips and then placed row by row onto the sleeve pieces, until just below the armseye. Then with the sleeves attached, I continued the process of putting rows of scales on to the bolero. After all the scales were attached and the lining was put in, the edges were bound and the neck closure was attached. The base bolero fabric was a thick spandex, and the scales were a soft pleather and tulle combo.
