The Little Prince
Based on the French book Le Petit Prince, adapted for stage by Rick Cummins and John Scoullar, The Little Prince is a fantastical story about an aviator trapped in a dessert who discovers a little Prince who relays his magical adventures. The director wanted to bring these stories to life, with the set evoking a 3D story book, and the costume to reflect the connections and human nature of each character. Having read this story in French class, I wanted to bring life to the illustration of the little prince. I took inspiration from the silhouettes and colors form the original book, while incorporating textures and patterns that evoke the innocent and celestial nature of the prince. Textures and colors were also big influence on the design of other characters. The Rose embodying beauty and fragility was draping in delicate fabrics in traditional rose colors, while the rugged yet friendly Fox was covered in patches that may appear scrappy at first, but eventually starts to feel like a comforting quilt.
